Dr. Chris Whipps (BSc in Biology '97)

After graduating from Malaspina, Whipps won a prestigious Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada grant which he used to pursue graduate studies at Oregon State University. He was the first VIU biology graduate to earn a PhD and today is regarded as an international leader in the molecular biology and evolutionary history of a group of fish parasites known as Myxozoans. Currently he’s an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York, in the College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
