In June 2009, Shoop completed medical school at McMaster University and is currently a resident in family medicine. She’s also the founding member of Alianza, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of the Mayan people in the highlands of Guatemala. In 2005, the organization opened its first nursing station in the small town of Comitancillo, and since then has established a health clinic and a variety of community programs in collaboration with the local people. Her future plans include pursuing a family medical practice and continuing to work with the people in Guatemala to improve their life circumstances.
